During the hot summer months, nothing is better than walking into your cool air-conditioned home. Conversely, there’s not much worse than having your AC go out mid-summer and being left with nothing to combat the heat. To prevent this from happening to you, there are a few simple tips from our air conditioner repair service experts you can do on your own to keep your air conditioner in good repair.
Here are five of these tips from our air conditioner repair service professionals at All Season’s Heating & Cooling in Batavia.
If your unit won’t turn on at all, don’t panic! Before worrying that something has gone seriously wrong, you should check your breaker to see if it tripped. If it did trip then you have a quick fix for the problem and you won’t need to worry any longer. Tripped breakers are common, especially when several appliances are on at the same time so make sure you do this before you call your air conditioner repair service experts.
It’s not uncommon for HVAC units to ice over which will prevent them from functioning properly. Melting the ice is simple to do. Just turn the system off and run the fan to make the ice melt more quickly. If speed isn’t an issue, you can just turn the unit off and let the ice melt on its own.
Often the system may just be dirty. Instead of an actual air conditioner repair service, the unit may just need to be cleaned. On the outside unit you can carefully clean the fan blades and remove any debris from inside or near the unit. The condenser fins can be cleaned also. Be very careful when fooling with blades and fins as they are easy to bend and break. Also, make sure the unit is off when you clean it.
You can avoid a lot of serious issues with your air conditioner by consistently changing your filter. Lack of air flow is one of these problems that lead to inefficient cooling. Clogged filters can also make your system ice up. Put simply, replacing your filter is an easy thing to do, but it can save you from major problems in the future.
If you feel comfortable climbing into your attic, check out your ducts to make sure air is coming out of them. In the event they are dirty enough to block air flow they will surely need to be cleaned. Often a register may have been accidentally closed partly or even all the way. A cursory check will show if air is flowing through the ducts.
Don’t let you AC give out on you! As you follow the simple tips listed above you should be able to prevent such a disaster from occurring.
